Now that weve all survived the arrival of Y2K,
the 11th annual "Best of Florida Schools" issue is finally here. Hopefully,
after having a couple of months to adjust to the new semester, youll be ready to
borrow a few of these ideas and implement them on your campus.
Deciding on which student initiatives were the most
innovative and worthy was downright frustrating, because so many student leaders were
either beginning exciting new programs or polishing old ones to perfection. Florida
Leader editors spent endless hours reviewing the application packets from schools,
checking out campus happenings in newspapers and on the web, and reading last minute
e-mail submissions, so we wouldnt overlook a single activity taking place around the
state.
Every year, students try to "out-do" their
agendas from the previous term, not only to get recognized in the "Best of Florida
Schools" issue, but to better their entire campus-body's educational experiences.
These Florida leaders' hard work has resulted in nearly 120 ideas to be read and discussed
throughout the entire state or viewed nationwide from the Florida Leader web site.
Hopefully, these lobbyists, coordinators, officers, and members will feel the pat on the
back they deserve for achieving their goals, pushing their organizations to new limits,
and setting an example for the readers at 82 colleges and universities.
If we didnt get a chance to sample your
schools recipe for success this year, thats OK. Its never too early to
start letting us know whats coming up on your campus for future issues. If
youd like the editorial team to take a look at your menu of achievements, contact us
by calling (352) 373-6907 or toll-free at (888) 547-6310, e-mail us at info@studentleader.com, or download applications here.
Editor's note: Each "Best Student Government" entry is
evaluated on a case-by-case basis. The editors research and assess each organization's
ability to identify and address student concerns, implement innovative programs, control
wasteful spending of student dollars, and network with administrators and other student
groups on campus and across the state. In addition, preference is given to SGs that can
demonstrate vast improvement in all the areas above. Florida Leader verifies each
SG's claims through numerous reference checks.
