Previous roles in
Student Government:
•
Honor Court
Chancellor
•
Student Senate
President
•
Senior Policy
Advisor
•
Numerous other
committees and chairs
Major Campaign Accomplishments:
1)
Student Tuition Committee
“The committee works
with the provost on establishing where the additional tuition dollars
will be spent if there is a tuition increase at the local level.”
2)
Increased
transportation through bus routes
“We have
attained increased hours of operation, more student routes, additional
Later Gator routes (late night bus service running from campus to
downtown), and more buses on overcrowded student routes.”
3)
Enhanced
lobbying efforts
“We hired
lobbyists who reside in Tallahassee to oversee all
statewide lobbying efforts.”
Why did you
become involved in SG?
“I really enjoy
working with people and making a difference. I felt that
I could add a unique perspective to Student Government and help
others grow into leaders.”
Who is your role
model?
“Golda Meier. She
was the first and only female Prime Minister of the
state of Israel. As a female she had to overcome great obstacles
to obtain her role in history.”
What is your
administration’s biggest challenge?
“When we came
into office there was a huge rift in the student body and
student government as far as party politics. We have been able to
successful overcome the division and have all worked together to
accomplish great things for the student body.”
What legacy will
your administration leave?
“We stayed on top
of every issue, we were proactive, no task was too
large or too small, and we were the most productive. We were able
to accomplish a tremendous amount of change
for the University of Florida.”
How does student
body view SG?
“As for every
form of government across the country, people are
apathetic and don't realize the great works of their governing
bodies. Those who do recognize our
roles have a positive view of our government
and our leaders.”
Describe your
relationship with the administration.
“I have a
terrific relationship. We work together on getting things
accomplished. There is no ‘us v. them’ mentality and I am
involved in almost all major decisions
that the university faces.”
Describe your
relationship with the media.
“No government
body is always going to be happy with every story and
every spin. Overall though, I have a good relationship with our
local paper. They have this year covered the
positive stories and have not come after our
leadership.”
What advice would
you give to other SG presidents?
“Never give up,
stick to your goals, and don't lose sight of your
morals.”
What are your
plans after graduation?
“I have not made
any final decisions. I am still torn between practicing
law and going directly into politics.”
