Janet Levic, 21, is a leader through her servitude to the student body at Saint Leo University. This method of leadership is apparent in many of her activities including her involvement with the American Cancer Society, where she organized the Walk for the Cure on campus, an event that raises thousands of dollars every year. “I’ve become in tune with the idea of servant leadership,” Levic says. “I know that my experiences and successes are a result of not only my dedication and passion, but also the numerous individuals who guide me through each experience.” Her brand of leadership also shines through her commitment to Community Service Days, a program that sends students into the community to do much-needed work. Moreover, during hurricanes Frances and Jeanne, Levic ensured that students and guests who sought shelter on campus were safe and protected. Her servant leadership is also evident through her positions on campus. She has participated as Student Government Union president, executive vice president, and vice president of Campus Activities—all of which have led to the development of a closer campus community. According to Dr. Edward W. Dadez, vice president for student affairs, he has never worked with an SGU officer who perseveres more than Levic. “It doesn’t matter what the issue, problem, or concern is, Janet jumps right in and helps to solve the problem in the most effective manner,” Dadez says. “Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious, and it assists greatly in getting students, faculty, and staff excited about the program, service, or idea.” As a senior, Levic was invited to participate in a leadership program known as the President’s Circle, which recognizes seniors who have made a significant contribution to Saint Leo by integrating their personal leadership abilities with the university’s values. She was also selected for induction into Sigma Beta Delta, an international honor society in business, management, and administration, and was nominated by Saint Leo for inclusion in the 2004 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. As a founding sister and officer of Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority, Levic is helping to change the way students at Saint Leo view sororities by creating and implementing a Judicial Rules and Conduct Handbook for when situations of misconduct arise. “This is revolutionary for the sorority since there has never been any risk management policies in the past,” Levic says. “She has a natural talent for leadership and is a strong, beautiful, young woman who knows what she wants and is determined to achieve all of her dreams,” says Ana Teresita Di Donato, assistant director for Student Involvement and Activities. “Janet’s dedication and persistence is an inspiration to all she comes in contact with.” All Levic’s hard work has not only been an inspiration but has literally paid off for her. She’s entirely self-sufficient and pays for all her expenses using academic scholarships, school employment, and other scholarships.–RG Contact Levic at janet.levic@saintleo.edu.
